“WHEELS” MAKES TRACKS IN LOS ANGELES

Operation School Bell on Wheels travels twice a month to a LAUSD district and serves 150 children on each trip. Over the course of a year, Wheels visits each district twice. On a typical Wheels trip, Wheels rolls into an elementary school and students from surrounding schools are brought in by their counselors for new clothing. One trip requires the efforts of 15-20 volunteers. Anne Banning members and LASPD Explorers provide the backbone of volunteer support for these trips.

As many corporations in the greater Los Angeles area have started outreach programs to put their employees in touch with the community, Wheels has become a way for corporate employees to perform a day of service. In the past year, Universal, Yellowpages.com, and Macerich are a few of the organizations that have chosen to perform a day of service on Wheels. If you are interested in having your organization perform a day of service on one of our Wheels trips, please contact us.

The Wheels portable dressing rooms were made possible through the generous donation of Mervyn’s. The Mark Hughes Foundation funds most of the Wheels operating expenses through their generous annual donation.
